Kristanna Loken to make a killer 'Jane

Vancouver, B.C.SCI FI Channel has cast Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3, BloodRayne) in the title role of its new superhero actioner Painkiller Jane. Produced by Vancouver-based Insight Film Studios, in association with Starz Media and Kickstart Comics, production on 22 one-hour episodes will begin next month.

Based on the eponymous comic book created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, Painkiller Jane is the story of Jane Vasko (Loken), a DEA agent who becomes involved with a covert government organization tasked with capturing genetically-enhanced super villains. During the course of her first investigation with the team, Jane becomes exposed to an experimental agent that renders her impervious to sickness and injury – but not pain. She develops superhuman abilities, healing from every injury and finding herself stronger than she had been before. Her miraculous new powers make her a target for those who will stop at nothing to discover their source. As Jane’s strength and pain continue to intensify, she races to turn the tables on her pursuers, and discover a way to save her own life.

Painkiller Jane is slated to premiere on SCI FI in Spring 2007, followed by a domestic broadcast weekly syndication window in Fall 2007. Starz Media will handle all non-North American distribution and licensing rights for the film. Additional casting is currently underway.
