Filming underway for While She Was Out

Kim Basinger goes all “out” in female-driven thriller

Vancouver, B.C. Insight Studios is pleased to announce that cameras will soon be rolling on its latest feature, While She Was Out, starring Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential, Cellular, 8 Mile). A real-time thriller in the vein of Deliverance and Dead Calm, the Academy Award winner will play a suburban housewife forced to fend for herself when she becomes hunted prey by four murderous young men.

This female-driven thriller marks the directorial debut of Scottish-born Susan Montford, producer of New Line Cinema’s Shoot ‘Em Up, starring Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti and Monica Bellucci. The independent picture is jointly produced by Kirk Shaw of Insight Film Studios, Don Murphy of Angry Films (Natural Born Killers, Transformer) and Mary Aloe of Proud Mary Entertainment. And director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy) is executive producer.

Along with Basinger, While She Was Out also stars Lukas Haas (Alpha Dogs, Witness). Principal photography starts February 12, 2007, and will be filmed on location in Vancouver. The film is slated to have a domestic and international theatrical release next year.

“It’s not your typical mild-mannered chick flick – it’ll boast enough thrills and chills to attract the testosterone set too,” Aloe says.

Incorporated in 1990, Insight Film Studios is Western Canada's fastest growing independent film and television production company. Based in Vancouver, it ranks as one of the top ten production companies in all of Canada. In 2006, the company began its foray into the theatrical realm, and is now in the midst of successfully completing five feature films.

Together, Insight and Proud Mary Entertainment are successfully bridging the gap between Hollywood and Hollywood North (Vancouver), recently producing the feature films When a Man Falls in the Forest with Sharon Stone and Timothy Hutton, which was just selected by the Berlin Film Festival to be in this year’s main competition. The two also collaborated last year on Numb, a dark romantic comedy starring Matthew Perry and Mary Steenburgen. They’ve also just wrapped the prestigious political action drama Battle in Seattle, starring Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Ray Liotta and hip hop star Andre Benjamin (Outkast).

Foreign sales are being helmed by Nicolas Chartier of Voltage while Cassian Elwes, head of independent film packaging at William Morris Independent, is repping the domestic rights.
